Anyone been in the last few days? Been away for a few days. Coming into teignmouth on the train yesterday it looked just diveable, wondered if the bay was any better. Away again from sat so my only chance. Cheers guys

Hi gents,
Took a 40 min dip in Torquay at lunch, no silvers seen but vis was good enough to make it worthwhile. Generally 2-3 meters, bit milky but worth a shot.
If anyone gets in I hope you have better luck than me! Better than eating a sandwich at the desk anyday though:)

Should also say was a bit choppy and tide giving drift but nothing testing. D.

Decided against tonight. Run along torre abbey choppy and lots of weed washed up. Now home and it is p*****g down.

In case anyone is interested, I was out around Thurlestone area this morning. Super quiet (didn't even fire the gun!) with about 2 meters viz. Bit milky.

:hmm

I was wondering actually, as there's not a breath of wind at the moment. Maybe try down that way after work.

When out last night between Start Point and Prawle point, viz much better. Still a little thin on the ground for fish. Took home a reasonable Pollock and a Bass.

Does anyone have any reports for the coast between Babbacombe and Budleigh?

I'm meeting up with a buddy from Exeter on Saturday but I've never actually dived along that bit of the coast.

Cheers folks,

Am new to this forum but can report terrible visibility from at least Ladrum bay to Branscome. Sea is a murky red from the sandstone up to about 100 metres offshore.

Hello everyone

I have recently moved to Devon (Abbotskerswell) and haven't been spearfishing for at least 10 years. Planning to gear up on Saturday and would really be keen for a dive on Sunday, viz permitting. Unfortunately I am originally from Cape Town and have never dived UK water. If there's anyone feeling like showing a newbie the ropes in Devon I would greatly appreciate it. I think all the muscle memory and basic skills are still there, its just a matter of getting into it again.

Thanks a lot.

DD

Just a little bump if anyone has any info on viz around Babbacombe.

Would be greatly appriciated :)

Dived a new spot in Torquay this evening, nice to try somewhere different and will be going back:)
Missed first shot at a bass and saw another decent sized one but out of range. Then saw no more silvers for next hour and and a half. Came back to shore, decided to take one last dive in 3 meters amongst string weed, then got a bass with nice clean head shot. Will feed the family nicely:) Ends my run of catching sweet FA.
Vis was variable but generally ok at 2-3 meters, more in some places. Lots of sediment in water but generally ok underneath it all.

Hi there.

If you should be diving Torquay again and dont mind me tagging along I would love to get in the water. Wont mind some fresh fish either, but just need to get in there for a start.

Hi, I'm not going to be getting in the water locally for 3 weeks probably as am out of area for 2 of them, with only the faint hope of a dive in between. No doubt you want to be in sooner!!

But, I do occasionally go spearing with a colleague who is also from South Africa and he does all of his spearfishing in the Bay. If you PM me an email address I can pass it on to him -not sure what his response will be to contact a random on the internet (he's not on this forum) but I can ask.

One clear distinction I can say you'll find between diving here rather than South Africa based on what my colleague says is - you won't be swimming around with the constant shark fear in the back of your mind!!!

I'm sure there's another kindly soul here who can assist?!

Ending up going out this morning in the Babacombe area, didn't get anything but as Dai ASBO said...

Got kitted up by the fantastic folks at Venturesports in Paignton this morning so now am officially ready to go and scare some poor fish.Dai ASBO, give me a shout when you are back, hopefully I would have had some fresh fish by then but always ready for a dive. Will try Torquay tomorrow morning for a nice swim around and getting used to the new gear...you never know.

Went on my first spearing mission this morning at Sidmouth. Visibility was about 4-5 metres in the lee of the cliffs at the far far end of Jacobs ladder beach. Only saw wrasse, makes me think I need to hone my ninja skills to find the good fish. Nice to get in the water though.
