Apologies all round. It's an age thing. Too many of anything easily confuses me. Especially apologies to you Yasser as you were on the ball (compensation rep will be winging its way to you).

So is bass catcher busterballs AKA Ade and is he the Tee shirt man? Then this other guy is a newbie? Phew! I give up.

I can sympathise with that - we're all getting old (although it was an easy mistake to make).

Now I'm off to get in the water locally.

No worries about a spy in your midst, I am a keen shore fisherman and fancy a go at spearo ing.

I have no high rank in the council but a bit of knowledge and a fair few contacts in many departments.

Went to Cypress recently and swam off a boat, a diving lady offered people to put a mask and air breather thingy (regulator?) and have a look at the fishies for free . Tell you the truth I freaked spat it out about 5 times and when I finally had a go for a minute I freaked more and vowed never to do it again a 44yr old wuss!!!

Still fancy having a go at it, really need to get more fit and less fat.

I thought Bustalung unique and quite amusing also origional which it was obviously not!!

No chance of confusing me with a 10 lb Bass catcher neither!!

went for a dive today conditions were brilliant but for some reason it was very quite under the water only managed 1 2lb bas but as always good to get in the water

I got in for a swim yesterday afternoon and went with the tide to explore some shallows ive had on my TO DO list since last year.

viz was a loverly 6-7 meters, bumped into a shoal of mullet straight off the beach and then a shoal of shoolie bass a little further on. As Ive never dived the spot before I took it slow making sure to investigate every rock and ledge finding plenty of bass hiding in ambush but none bigger than 2lb so carried on.

Came across a nice size mullet feeding and took him for my mate ( he loves them) shortly followed by a bass out the stringweed and then another :friday

on the way back to the beach I found a nice bass sitting in the kelp, lined up and missed like a complete tosser only to have him shoot off, do a u turn and come back and stair at me :head

Nice spot to dive although not many big fish spotted and the boat traffic was bit to busy for my liking and getting home at 11pm has not gone down very well roflrofl

Hey Scott, you are quite a successful spearo now - so - what is your percentage of bass caught in the weed to bass caught elsewhere?

I had a good dive yesterday evening. Viz was pretty good considering the weather. No Bass to be seen in the weed, just smallish Pollock everywhere, so I looked for flatties out on the sand. I got a flounder within a few minutes, but nothing after that, so went back to the gullies for crabs and lobsters.

I was looking under ledges on the edge of a sandy gully when the sand exploded under my face and scared the crap out of me. The culprit turned out to be a very large flounder who was buried, and as my attention was elsewhere, didn't even see him until my mask was inches away.

Ended the dive with just the one fish, but it was good to be in the water with clear skies and a setting sun.

Hey Scott, how is your girfriend now, is she on the mend?

As a sidenote, I stripped the Go-Pro case right down, cleaned and silicone greased the O rings on all the buttons to see if it stops the leaks. I couldn't be bothered sending it back to the States for replacement just yet. Took it to 12m yesterday and didn't let in any moisture, even the buttons were dry, so seems to be OK for now. Even the camera is working again.

Hey All,

dived today with Crazywind and Budleigh Spearo (Olivier and Dan). Not much doing one meal size bass and a half decent crab in my pot but that was that. Dan, as he said, had a better ish bass and olivier was living upto his mullet botherer tag!!!!! 3 taken. All quiet, even the local netter who stopped only had 6 fish in his net.

Still average dive better than work any day!!!

PS Car park attendent was very amiable to Dan and I on Sunday, even getting his picture book out to show us the wreck pictures from back in the day. Seemed nice yet odd in a not quite a whole penny way.

Foxfish- at the moment more in the stringweed maybe 80% ive changed my technique ( if you can call it that) recently and seems to be working well Im seeing more fish and getting closer than before so all good

trelawney- thanks for asking mate, the girlfriend is on the mend and most of the bruising has gone. Ive been a good boy and done everything the shopping to the hoovering and even did a load of washing without flooding the house.

Ellie went for a checkup a few days ago as she was getting up in the middle of the night with pain in her leg but the doctor says its normal and to keep moving it , I suggested she cut the lawn but I seem to be the only one who found that funny :head



what say we have a meetup down your way soon for a nice shore/boat dive ? theres talk of one in budleigh near the end of the month so one in Plymouth would be great ANYONE UP FOR THAT ?

Sounds good to me. Boat diving would be good as you can get out to the Breakwater and across to Penlee Point and Rame Head.

I think the issue with banning spearfishing or not in certain areas might reflect on competitions where quite often the weigh-in takes place in the nearest car park to the beach. The National Trust might have been influenced by public reaction to seeing so many fish being caught which in the opinion of Joe Public AKA National Trust member is cruel and savage! I've been at a BSA weigh-in where people started to kick-off after seeing so many 'dead fish'. The same people who buy fish from supermarkets caught in trawl nets. Unfortunately we get tagged as bloodsport enthusiasts in these cases although if they see just one guy and his catch it's a different story. All you can do is educate and explain what you are doing but sometimes it will fall on deaf ears. Give the car park bloke some drugs and a tenner and he will go away! :t

Any one concened re. this topic should go and see a weigh in of a species hunt Rod and Line fishing comp.

My view on any type of fishing is the fish should be killed as quickly as possible and only taken to be eaten.

Would these people feel any different if the fish from these comps were laid in ice boxes and were after weigh in sold for a charity to improve PR.

I realise that regs. prevent them being sold but under these circumstances maybe discussions could be had with the governing bodies who make these rules?

i agree with the comment on rod and line competitions as ive fished many and just got sick of it.
i cant deal with looking at buckets dogfish (which for many comp purposes have a average weight) just getting filled up and then slung in the nearest bin when dead after the weigh in, not saying this is the same everywhere but most fish are just left to die and binned after the weigh in, sad but its just the way most clubs work. thats my own personnal experience of comp fishing thats why i dont do it anymore.
(i dont sling anything away dead or alive! )
one positive point is i know where to find monster flounder in december!

I feel I should stick up for this car park attendant a little bit (despite already having described him as a 'loony').

As Tribs said, he's actually quite a friendly bloke, and he did point out the location of the wreck to me - it just seems that he's got some other, parallel, stuff going on in his head.

For all we know, he might be getting these instructions to stop spearos parking in his field from some higher authority (and I'm talking about his boss here, not aliens).

youll be amazed what it can do for relations.
mate of mine used to work at a well known tyre chain and used to give the guy on a car park gate good discount etc and we got free surf parking for prob 2 years !
and the relationship was from then on a positive one!
just a thought or maybe have a bbq in the carpark and invite him along?

Sorry, when you've got a bunch of sprearos weighing in fish in a public car park, you on to a loser. Comps are a PR nightmare. Forget trying to explain the merits of a comp to anyone ....there just aren't any. They simply highlight the worst element of our sport to the general public, and push it above the radar. Perfect ammo for PETA etc.
