Speargun Help!!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
marwan: yes, i have. and you can be sure that in the very near future i will pollute your forum with alot more.

kenny gets killed by all sorts of people, in all sorts of ways, depending on the episode of south park you are watching. any 'south park watcher' should know the 'omg they killed kenny you bastards' phrase haha its actually pretty lame show, no idea why i use it as a nickname

murat: what an honor :t ive read alot of your posts. so you dont think that 110 is overkill for smaller fish? if you are in turkey, then the conditions we spearfish in should be similar, no?

edit: instead of making a new thread, ill just ask here:

i just came back from the shop, and this is all they have of interest (the guns are also only in the size i mentioned)

omer excalibur 3000 110 (open muzzle, will it be a problem? ive never used them before)
sporasub instinct pro 100 and 110
omer excalibur 2000 100 (screw in bands, werent loop bands better?)

so i think the omer xcalibur 3000, but its a bit big (amazingly light though)...so what do you think of these guns??
and is it possible to tell if i can load it on land? seems way easier in the water with my 75

what a lot of posts, what a lot of good advice and options! My two cents:

Kenny, just get in and start shooting, a 100 Euro Cayman (the cheap one, not the HF) in 90 (or more for your clear waters) with single 18MM band, it has a built in spear guide, will be more accurate and powerful than you'll ever need in 99.9% of occasions.

To complicate things a bit: do you have a lot of weed or cross currents where you shoot? If so, stay with a shorter gun.

BTW: never load + fire a spear gun on land. I promise, just don't ever try. please.. Also many guns are almost impossible (for me) to load on land, MUCH MUCH easier in the water,

hmm, do any of the ones you have offer a guide for the spear? Its a continuous "u" shape along the top of the tube. Don't trust those plastic guides that are clamped to the tube as they always seem to twist around. If feel proper guides really help accuracy. I know the excaliber 2000 is an excellent gun but no guide. Could you order from the deeperblue store? Click on the shopping link at the top of the page. I have bought 100% of my gear through them and am very happy.

i would, but i doubt it would be affordable (shipping from US to lebanon...), and even if i did order it it would either arrive 4 months later, or not at all (experience)
so what do you all think is the best choice from the ones i asked about??

they are in Spain, just click the link, put in your country and try. That costs nothing I am in Chile and it works for me!

wow....
im still not sure though, the political situation changes daily, and i have NEVER recieved anything sent to me by mail.how can i pay cash?? i have neither credit card, nor bank account.
also, i like being able to actually hold the gun before i buy it. but ill consider that, thanks!

ps meanwhile, can anyone tell me abou the excalibur 3000? why open muzzle, and how hard is it compared to closed muzzle? also will the 110 be a cramp to load???

This is an ideal gun by my reckoning, easy to use, load, aim and easy on the pocket. Looped/circular bands are not better they are different. The screw in bands will make life a little easier for you, you will understand why after using it for a while; trust me on this

A gun is easier to load in the water, "I think" because your body can dedicate more to the load because balance is less of a problem. A gun that is lighter out of the water will kick more than a heavy one. A gun will feel better in the water than out, don't use this as a comparison.

I have never owned an Omer gun but my friend owned a 2000 and it was a very good gun, OK the cayman has some refinements but the 2000 will be as accurate as you will need. The in line bands are part of this design, put circular bands on it and it'll be crap. Stick with the 100 it's the best choice for you, you have about 80 years of experience telling you this between Spaghetti, Marwan and myself. In time you will probably add a 120 to your collection, that will be a better bet than trying to make do with a 110

my 90% use gun is an excalibur 2000 carbon 100 but i removed the guide and added a stick on rail from omer amazing gun, personally i like the screw in bands more than the circular

Hi,

I am not sure if they are available in Lebanon, but if the water is clear, I would possibly go as long as 115 cm - carbon barrel and 6.5mm shafts. Plenty hitting power behind this and with 2 X 16mm rubbers extremely quick for smaller bream - it will work well in aspetto! Have a look at the Rabitech Stealth guns. They do last and are exteremely accurate.

However, considering that you currently have a 75 cm gun, perhaps 100 cm may be easier for you - but eventually 115 will probably be your gole.

Good luck and shoot straight

ok, so it 100 it will be....
i saw that the excalibur 2000 uses 16mm bands. isnt that a bit small? can it take 18 or even 20 mm bands?
what size fish will i be able to take effectively?? and can i still get a woman pregnant with it at a range of 4 m??
can i also use it for occasional blue water spearing?

what are the disadvantages of open muzzles??
can i just get any spearfishing reel and stick it on the gun?? if i cant get the excalibur 3000 in any other size, should i get the excalibur 3000 110 instead of the excalibur 2000 100??

Great choice mate, my first gun was a 100 as well, then I bougth 90 , then 100 , then 90 , then 110 , then 75 , then 130 wood, then 90 wood, then 85wood , then 100 wood , then 100 wood , then 115 wood , then 130 wood , then 55 , then 75 , then 110 and belive it or not I am still shopping for guns. But it all started with the 100, probably the gun I used the most. rofl

get some omer power 18mm bands for the excalibur, really makes it shoot a lot better!!!
if ure lucky they change it without charging you extra..
also i didnt like the standard spear that came with it, ask if they change it to another brand.

when i bought my omer excalibur i got it with 18mm bands and a cressi spear without extra charge, so its worth a try...

you might also consider a reel, heard good things about the omer match and its affordable..

i strongly advise you seatec gabbiano guns. i used omer excalibur 3000, 2000 and many many more and seatec gabbiano is best amoung them. If you can't get seatec gabbiano, try cayman HF it looked so good to me (old version) and no 110 is not overkill if you have the visibility.
