well went in the outlet today really bad vis in some spots (deeper water) saw a few carp but couldnt get a shot :headi cant take it anymore i need to get my spear in a fish soon or i am going to go stir crazy :t i think a couple more weeks and the outlet should be better

Why'd you go to "the outlet" you been there all winter? Is it THAT good? Your Brother's video's show some pretty nice gills sometimes! And I know you guys killed a bevvy of carp there too...

Hehe...Bevvy...I REALLY AM a hick!!! rofl

I changed my plan today. (Or should I say one of the twins did! She's got'er'self an ear infection or sumthin'......) So I moved todays dive up to an "afternoon" dive since my wife is doing a "Twins Rummage Sale" thing this-morning AFTER our baby's doctor appointment...Whats the deal man...Is there a "Twins Rummage Sale" every day??? :chatupShe doe's get some nice stuff really cheap though...

Dotey...You shoulda' came down here...I'm SURE I will stick some fish...Wheteher they be carp or not is yet to see...Actually I'd like to put "the pole" to some nice big crappies! Carp for me are just an "incidental" kill usually - Plus I don't wanna break my "el flimso" pole spear on a carp. Big dogfish also thrash about quite violently! But that where the JBL comes in!!!!

Oh well...See ya on the 26th most likely.

Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda' - Came down here! Did you go out "on your own" - "solo"?

I'll post "stats" and pics of any IMPRESSIVE fish I may spear...The CONTEST has JUST begun for me! SO LOOKOUT GUYS!!!

I have a cool, younger friend... ( only 21 I think?) He's my "usual" safety buddy/friend for about a year and a half now...His name is "Joshua"...He want's to "get in" on the contest too! Sooner or later we'll make 'em up a profile and all...He has NO computer...I know...WHAT NO COMPUTER? :duhAnyways I'm GIVING him ALL of my old stuff as I get new stuff...I just bought him a dive watch and cheap dive knife for his birthday! The guy almost cried! Too bad my fins don't fit 'em! I can't wait to give 'em my old scuba "farmer john and jacket"!!! It's sooooo cool when someone appreciates "the little things" so much. :inlove Makes me feel good too! Uhhhhhh...THAT just DOES'NT sound right!!!....So DON'T get any ideas! :naughty I am a true LADY's MAN, through and through!

I'm Kinda' doing what Whopperhead did...Helped to outfit a buddy or two just to have someone to go with...Plus it's cool to promote the sport. He'll probably do P.F.I. with me too (Josh)!

He's not much of a "safety diver" really, but better than NO ONE...Atleast he can dial 911, is a good swimmer (has my old (too big snorkeler fins)and can dive to about 30 feet - But then can't equalise??? ( I think he's scared of the dark water!) For what little we know about safety protocol...We do pretty good...We even run some "drills" or play dead or kinda do a fake SWB- He knows what to do if I were to SWB...under arm head cradle, talking, blowing, tapping...And even basic CPR...He is also as strong as an ox! We've actually "rescued" each other within seconds of the start of an UNANNOUNCED "drill"...Several times...A few times I freaked him out and played dead longer than I should have...but I wanted him to know this is SERIOUS stuff...No B.S.

We also practice "wet statics" when together -Talking and signaling every 10-15 seconds after 1 minute...Josh can only do about a minute and a half though...He'll get better! In fact - On some days I'm not much better!

Wish he (Josh)...or "someone" was gonna be with me today! Diving alone is still cool but IS extremely dangerous...Especially when BOATS are involved. Plenty of MORON'S on Lake Geneva usually...What do they got a friggin' cruise control or something? Some diver's just got schwacked by a boat in the Red Sea and DIED.... Stupid jerks (some boaters's/waterskier's)sometimes just don't see your flag until the last minute and then they look all suprised and wave...:vangry By myself I stay closer to shore/shallower. Ideally I 'd have my Yak too for another flag and to be more visible to moronic boater's

Anytime he's (Josh is) at my house he just HAS to check out Deeperblue!!! I may even get him and older PC somehow...He'd be on here all of the time...I GOT HIM HOOKED!!!! YES! Plus this little "contest" of ours has him thinking too!

P.S. Dotey...You get 'yer fishin' license? Last years IS expired! I gotta pick mine up too! I'm gonna look weird walkin' into Wal-Mart in a wetsuit all "fat" and with Crocs! Hehehe! rofl

Now where the heck is my wife???? I wanna LEAVE!!!! Especially before my little boy wakes up! He freaks when I leave!

P.S. Per recent phonecall...My little girl DOES have an ear infection...No where's my PHD???!!!!!!

Oh yeah...Still never been to "the outlet"....Looks to be a TON of "nice" fish there at times! Someday!

Holy cow this is a RAMBLER.....My pointer fingers are numb! roflAnd I'm MAXXED OUT on "smileys" too! Whoa!

Where there is a Will- There is a Way

I called Tass early this morning and we decide to meet me at the outlet. I get down there and there are 2 foot waves and I saw it lightning. I call Tass and tell him- it's a no go. He had brought his family down with him- to do some shopping. They were close to were I was and after a few stops in stores. We come outside and the skies look to be a bit better. We decide to drive back to the OUTLET and give it a shot.

The Vis SUCKED!!! We had about 1 foot vis. We decided we're wet and we will shoot carp- we will be shooting from the hip- but we will spill blood. I would see large shadows swim by but didn't know what they were- so, I was not going to shoot. I wanted to wait till the carp swam in my face. Blah, Blah, Blah I ended up shooting 5 Carp (4 common 1 buffalo) Tass got himself a nice Buffalo that weighed 21#. He also got to break in his HammerHead. The 2-3 foot waves ended up kicking our butts and we decided to get out and Go Home.

I think it was a successful day considering the poor vis.

I was bound and determined to kill something with the new Hammerhead - so the break in weather was a welcome sight. Like Scott said, there were 2-3 foot waves. I had to take a break and stand at the shore because I was getting sea sick after about an hour. All in all it was a successful and nice to get back in the water. Last time I was in the water ice chunks were hitting me in Lake Michigan. Happy Hunting...

I was watching the flags blowing this morning and decided to check out the outlet even though you two had crappy vis. Well, the vis is still crappy, but the lake was flat calm. I, almost, saw some panfish by the outlet opening and did manage to shoot one carp out in the weed beds, but with vis under 3' I decided it just wasn't worth the effort.

Next, I drove up to one of my favorite spots on Mendota to give it a shot- pun intended. Vis was a little bit better here- around 6'. The weeds are still down and I saw nothing that I could shoot. I did manage to see one huge catfish and a nice northern, but by the time I bumped into them my camera was out of power.

The water is hovering around 45F right now, which wasn't bad compared to what we dove in most of the winter, but with crappy vis and no fish I just may skip diving for a bit and jump back on the bike.

I am goingto the outlet in the morning tomorrow if anyone would like to meet there let me know Ill be going in the water around 10:00 am to kil some monster carp :crutchso please let me know if youll be there or heck just show up hope to see ya

My dad is recieving the "Judge of the Year" award at the menona terrace tomorrow. I am bringing my gear but his event starts at 11, and runs to about 2? So I have no idea whether Ill be able to get in or not. Id love to stone a couple carp to get up on the boards though. I would hate to be that close, and to have not gone. Any recommendations about where to go? (Shore diving obviously.) If not, be sure to wave at me dotey, and good luck!

If you are going towards the Capital on East Washington Ave. Turn Left onto Paterson St. Until you run into the Lake- the outlet is to the right of the Park- We enter right on the edge of the park and where the houses begin. If you go 2 houses down- there is a OverLook and you can look DOWN and see all the carp. I still might be able to go- but it wouldn't even be until around noon. But we would be in the water for at least 3-4 hours if not more- depending on how things are going and the vis. I don't think I would really try anywhere else- still not quite time for the other lakes. The Outlet is your best shot.

I was down by Monona today and the vis is WAY better than it was in Mendota on Sunday.

Scott, we were in the wrong lake.:head

I am posting this on behalf of dotey. dotey went to the OUTLET today as it was Sunny and Nice. He wanted his family to see what it is that goes on. So, he brought them along for a good show. As soon as he gets in the water BAM! He shoots the biggest Carp he's ever seen!! He quickly remembers what I told him and let go of his speargun and let the carp drag the bouy around and tire out. He finally got ahold of it. I weighed it when he got to my house 42 lbs! The Length was 38.5" long. This is the biggest carp I've also seen. His next biggest was 38lbs and was 38" long. All in all dotey ended up with 15 CARP!

This brings his ROUGHFISH TOTAL To: 26

And he now has the Lead for LARGEST ROUGHFISH with a score of: 80.5
(42# + 38.5"= 80.5) Weight + Length.

Good job dotey

My kids and I bumped into him on our bike ride today.

The back of his truck was full up with fish- they were ALL huge. I'm really kicking myself for wasting so much time in Mendota on Sunday when we could have been here. :head

Everywhere I biked along that lake today had clear water.

Good shootin' there Tex- erh... Dotey. :friday

thank you land shark it was a fun filled day but heck isnt every day spearfishing a fun day

Looks like your record is safe for another week Dotey- the biggest one I could find was only 36 pounds.

Ted (unirdna) got two crappie, Scott (Whopperhead) shot two carp, and I got 8 carp. Scott shot more than that but was having some sort of issues with his Hammerhead- trigger mechanism seems to need some work.

Water was 55F so I may start switching over to a thinner wetsuit next time out- 6mm was a bit much. Vis was OK at first, but the shear number of boats out there messed things up pretty quick- why does someone need to drive a bassboat 60 MPH's to get to a spot that 5 other boats are already sitting on? :head

Here's a couple shots from today.
