Hi All,

I have missed out on the past 3 club dives or 2 as last week was cancelled.

Where are we tomorrow then gents? Looking at the windguru it seems we may have south westerly.

Does that mean another Durleston, maybe Lulworth if it keeps more to the west. Castle or Newton's Cove, although a stretch for the Bournemouth & Poole boys, me included.

In that case mate, just for you, we'll hold it at Durlestone.

Happy?

.

Guys, i wont be able to make tomorrows club dive as will be working at Hythe Marina , the plus side is they are giving me a permit to dive on the piers and jettys so will be different if there is any vis.

Have a good one anyway !!!

If someone lets me know i will still send out the txt ;-)

As a pig.

Me? I will go anywhere. I just need more time in the water.

There really isn't much difference between Wymouth & Dureslton as it is a slow road for me to Swanage & quick for me to Weymouth.
Only a stretch if I cannot get off as early as I would like.

i will wait till tomorrow as you might change your minds yet, lol.

If its Durlstone , what is the name of the road again ? i have been there twice in the past week so i should remember, old age i guess

Bell-end!

That's you, by the way - the Road is called Belle Vue.

I'll check the viz tomorrow afternoon and send you a report

You might want to put this on the Dorset thread as well mate - it will get more pairs of eyes on it there.

Is Colin Chester going to be there too, selling Rob Allen gear? That will also help to draw people in who are especially interested in that gear.

Hope it goes well,

All the best,

Gaz.

Sorry fellas but I now won't be able to make the club dive tonight, or for the next few weeks, for that matter.

I've had something come up and will be out of the country until mid/early August.

Have a good time though,

Gaz

Finally got out again last night on the club dive, only about 5 of us. Paul Smith, Tony & a couple of new people Johnny & Ben.

Anyway got on to the fishy ladder with a nice 1.5lb Sole of about 40 cms, was swimming in open water, so I shot that & decided to look for some more, but didn't find any. Tony had a good size Sole, probably another quarter bigger.

I saw lots of sand eels around & smallish Pollack. I did see a huge Bass dart in front of me in the shallows 60cms + or so. I did look for it but it was gone.

Well done mate, that's a great fish to start on.

Apparently they benefit from being left for one or two days before eating.

Well done to you too Toni!

Two lovely fish from the Wessex Club dive!

Cheers Gaz, probably have it either tomorrow or Friday.

Just got to see how I want to do them, maybe some Sole wrapped around some dill on some seasonal veg in a parcel with white wine ala chef Ramsay, or will take ideas.

Best way to eat a three day old sole is with a cloths peg on your nose rofl
Sorry guys as its probably just me but I have this thing about eating fresh fish:)

Agreed,

The received wisdom (according to Hugh Fernley Whittingstall) is 24 - 48hrs. I wouldn't leave it any longer. I left that one I shot recently for three days - it didn't smell too appetising after that amount of time (I turned my nose up at it, so my missus had to eat it).

Apparently they were popular in the 'olden days', before refridgeration, because they travelled so well - and even improved with age.

Personally, I'm with Foxfish on this one though - I have a thing about fresh fish too (I'm not too keen on it when it's even a day old), but I thought I would pass on the 'received wisdom' anyway (even if it does sound counter-intuitive), just in case you were a true gourmet.

It's up to you mate, but 2 days is more than enough, and three is probably too much.
