I've been working on my swimming form, trying to improve my dolphin kick so that when I post some swim videos I don't get self conscious ;^) This feels like the most "balanced" version of the Lunocet to date, as I'm able to sprint or cruise steadily, accelerate or swim smooth and slow. It's uncanny how well it functions in several different swimming modes! My streamlining is improving too, and last night's swim was faster and smoother than any before. No problems with the fin either-the pins stay put, the spring does not get slack/slop, it just plain works well. It's also significantly lighter than the 2014 pro, and feels like it in the water (or in my dive bag!)

I enjoy seeing the beautiful swimming represented in Deeper Blue.

I haven't managed to make a video either Doc but perhaps the feature I like most about my Luno is that my Luno and I swim well together and have lots of fun IN SPITE OF my form.

The forgiving nature of the Lunocets, the accessible price point, remarkably combined with the beauty and high performance make me think the monofin market can now expand to many more users.

It is more forgiving-I realized just how much after swimming with nothing but Lunocet for several months and then putting my Glide fin back on. I quickly found that I could not keep it stable; I would either not swim a straight line, or the fin would sideslip on me. It really was much harder to use! When I put the Luno back on, in the same swim session, I immediately straightened out and didn't have to think about it. On the other hand, it is far more maneuverable in turns or rolls. I sometimes do part of a lap face down, then rotate 90 so that I do the length looking down, right, up, left, down or the other way. Sort of what you might see at an airshow really. It's easy with a Lunocet-ever try it with a Glide? While it can be done, it's far harder to pull it off smoothly. Sometimes I do a sidestroke on the surface, with half of one fluke protruding sharkfin-like (the kids love it). Then halfway down the lane I'll switch to the other side. It is a very versatile fin.

yes, Kars, it does! See my previous comment though; I'm working on it...I'd like to make it more about the fin and less about my form when I post the next video. Though, I do like the feedback to help my technique-maybe we should resurrect or start a thread on developing better monofin technique. Also, need to have my wife or kid there with the camera...too often my swims are super early morning and they are not there.

NORMAL OR NUTS?

I'm wondering if the spiraling or inverted or shark like submerged swimming is peculiar to or easier for Luno swimmers?

Your description sounded normal to me. I find myself swimming exactly as you described... inverted, on my side or in a spiral for diversity and entertainment or to be able to see more.

Maybe we just do those things because the Luno lends itself to swimming sunny side or moon side up?

My son is the only other person I mono with frequently. He just naturally goes upside down too. Maybe all finners like that sensation?

One of our coach's training routines, called the 'Cha-cha-cha', requires us to swim (mono-fin) four kicks on each orientation (face down, left, up, right and round again) for four lengths, 30 second pause then repeat. It's quite a good routine for trying to concentrate on technique whilst in the different orientations and keeping you moving.

That is indeed a fairly common monofin training exercise, which teaches one to fin with comfort and awareness in all planes of movement.

Thanks, noa and Philip! I had no idea that was a regular training drill-I just did it for fun and to compare the two different fins. I could see it does help positional awareness, as the first time it is a bit disorienting. My pool is too short, at 25 yards, to do four kicks in each orientation unless they are quite small kicks. This would be even more fun in a 50 pool. Another one I do is to swim face up but underwater, and try to surface only enough to take a breath then go under again. This give me a break from the snorkel when surface swimming and is more entertaining than just swimming on my back.

Cool. I'll have to try that soon and see what it will do for my positional awareness! (assuming my fin is forth-coming ;))

I love swimming while facing the surface of the water. One of the fun "tricks" I do at the lake is to do the breast stroke just under water upside-down, trying to get as close as I can without breaking the surface of the water. Another one is to dive shoulders-first from a back-float while looking up toward the surface. I imagine that one looks rather alarming from any distance.

DOC !!!!

LITTLE HELP HERE DOC!!!!

I'm at the pool.... Have gotten out of the water but I CAN'T WALK ¡

Umm, can't walk? ok...would that be because of equilibrium or muscle function? What do you feel?

This is what happened: I got the new YETI skin suit.... Supposed to be completely different.... Drag no longer a factor etc....

That with my Luno I thought could be incredibly FAST!!!

I gradually cleaned up my stroke during the hour....going faster and faster.... On my last pass I punched it going for a personal best of some kind... Water began to peel off my goggles.... Encouraged I hit it even harder and it actually felt like I broke some kind of barrier....a transcendent experience! Call it water warp speed maybe?!?!

But now I've gotten out of the pool and I can't walk DOC ¿?¿?¿

Sounds like fun...except for that last part. Does anything hurt or feel numb? You can text me if you'd like- 501-206-5072. I may be able to call you back too.

OK....OK.... An observant life guard has solved the problem.... She says Apparently I went so fast my speedo slipped down around my ankles ¡
