Let me have a go, I have an uncanny ability to irritate people enough to get them writing , unintentionally of course. I was curious as to why you would change the fin design that was purportedly brilliant but merely lacked a good spring to show it's brilliance, all of a sudden we hear the fin needed work as well , I saw the fin had been changed to a thinner version, knowing this would seriously change the fins flex, I did wonder why. I know ted deserves encouragement due to the investment in time and money that he's given to the cause, but the reservations of the fin should of been shared on this forum earlier. Also in the right to bitch department, you have a right to bitch if you bought the fin without coming across these forums beforehand, but not if you bought it afterwards.

I disagree. The logic at work here being that the "right to bitch" is abrogated by a clear understanding of the Lunocet situation, I'd like to know where on these forums we customers are given the complete picture regarding Lunocet production... For reasons I will not guess at at this time, this lack of clarity has not been effectively remedied over the course of a number of months. The right to bitch is alive and well for anyone not feeling particularly patient. :p

@ Ichthys, you mean breaking the surface?...
not yet, my form is to bad for it. Ineed to get in higher frequenz. My speed is to slow.
Yes, I mean breaking the surface. With regard to speed, I don't think you need Olympic form to make a good attempt, but deep water helps. My brother and I were trying with a pair of cheap bi-fins in a dolphin stroke a few weeks ago in 18-20' of water, and our best height was upper to mid-thigh (using both hands to give us extra push just before we broke the surface). IMO 18' was a good minimum for a full run-up--much shallower and didn't feel like I had time to reach full speed.

This video was my primary inspiration...

i knew this vid. I got just 5 meter deep water... and on a lake its already to freaking cold without any view...

That might be the ultimate monofinning video! That guy, his fin, set up, and trick are absolutely incredible!

Hesitate to post about performance following that but achieved a pr for me using stiffer flex 11 Carbon Shimano shoes fine tuned on Noa's 2014 Lunocet Pro with an exo spring. I wore a full body neoprene suit instead of my usual Tyr Torque Pro compression fabric sleeveless shorty.

If the 2015 Luno improves upon this helping me get near or under eleven seconds I'll be truely thrilled!

Like before ducking under, pushing off the wall then swimming wide open throttle for 25 yards. (About 1/2 second faster!)

First ever under twelve seconds for me.
11.89
11.83
11.92
12.40
12.20 previous PR was 12.25
11.80 All time new PR!
11.92

There are some interesting shoe details emerging on Noa's " Cycling Shoes for Monofinning " thread.

Thanks doc. Hope we see some 2015 reports real soon!

On the other hand.....Not so easy to come up with something truly new and different....

I've heard 2nd hand that some have moved... Any arrivals?

What I would like--and I don't think I'm the only one--is to know approximately how much longer we're looking at for the build and shipping process here, giving yourself a reasonable cushion for delays, of course. I don't want a small number, I want something to give me a ball-park idea of how much longer I might be waiting (using my own estimate regarding where I stand in line), so that I can look forward to it and not be on edge as much as the days progress. With this first production run discussed here, we're all left wondering, "am I one of 30? or one of 200?" We would all love to circle a day/week/month to when Lunocet 2015 Pro production will be caught up to become current, instead of crossing off days as we go. Cheers.
No answer on or against any of this, Ted?

No answer on or against any of this, Ted?
I have come to feel that asking any of these questions to Ted, is a bit like urinating against the wind. One ain't going to get much other than frustration...
Best to put the whole thing aside, swim/dive with what we have in our hands and the Lunocet will come when it comes, and work when it works. Then again, not everyone will want to be part of this "process"...

I'm not one to resign myself to such a negative outlook, and the Lunocet is to be my first quality piece of swim/dive gear (excluding my mask). I presume that Ted is capable of giving a straight answer, even if he's not given to communicating as much as one would expect during this sort of wait, and that's all I'm after. I didn't want the question to get buried and forgotten. I don't like unknowns.

I did start shipping the new 2015 Lunocet Pros. One of them went to Jeff Watson who wrote the review of the 2014 model. He and a few others said that the new Pro spring was a little too stiff. This is opposite of the problem with the 2014 Pro spring. The new spring was designed to be stiffer and take into consideration a break-in period. However even after 10 hours of hard use the spring still seems a little stiff on the lowest setting. I am in the process of refining the the spring geometry. There is something else to this story.. the prototype was dialed in with a different curing process to the spring than what I am doing in production. The previous process created a spring that was working well for me but only because the very core of the spring was not fully melted. I have a unique compression molding process that uses beads of rubber about 2mm in diameter. They are dumped in the mold, heated and squashed. The process requires getting the times for heating, squashing, and cooling just right. The delay between Marco's unit and the rest was because Marco's spring had the original process spring but it failed quickly... His actually tore and the beads were revealed as not melted in the center. Funny thing is mine never tore and worked quite well. The solution was to change some of the process times. I was able to produce a very tough, dense spring which Marco has been using for quite some time now... the problem is now the spring is too strong. I have been working on changing the geometry of the spring slightly by adding ports to the side to remove rubber. The ports are created by using .250 in. inserts in the mold. Below is a pic of the mold getting the slots for the inserts. I know there are other solutions like using a different durometer material but this solution has a few benefits. Besides, the lead time for rubber material is 6 weeks and requires large batc orders the get economies of scale. So to keep the price down, I wanted a solution that could work with my existing material. The insert depth will determine the thickness... the added benefit to this is that I can use different inserts to make different stiffness springs. Each will still have three locations for changing the stiffness in a narrower window. But I think one spring, once dialed in, will cover enough range to be good for sprinting as well as DYN. I should begin shipping again on Friday.

Thank you for the update! There are valuable potential benefits because of the ported design. These are benefits previously imagined, but this is the first idea to emerge making them easy to implement on a stock Lunocet.

Does anyone know how many 2014 & 2015 pro's actually made it out into the world? I know this changes nothing, but I'm curious. Reading through this thread it seems there are only 2 2015's so far. That's pretty poor in my opinion. I know there's people out there who placed an order before me (March 17th). But come on Ted, less of the promises & more actual shipping to customers please

Fredd!

It looks like Ted's update just a couple of posts above is holding water.

Ted has used AA's analytical and swimming talents like a canary in a mine.... Jeff gets one of the earliest ships then responds with a thumbs up or down before bigger numbers hit the rest of us.

The post above reveals that AA felt the new peduncle / spring combo was tooooooo stiff and tough. The 2014 test was the opposite. A bunch of either would have been a mess shipped to the field of swimmers. So we've gone through this extended revision.

Lunocet arrivals and great performance are the remedy that we all await. I've heard there is movement. Hoping we've attained "thumbs up"!

Just to keep the carrot dangling. My slightly modified 2014 Pro swam great as usual this morning. It's the nicest swimming equipment I've ever owned. All I can do is reassure everyone waiting that the Lunocet development direction is good.

I'm right there with you hanging on for resolution of the last little issues!
