Oh man, seeing cuttlefish has been on the top of experiences I had yet to have. Can't wait!

They are pretty cool creatures. Nowadays, I prefer to just watch them rather than shoot them. However, they are very tasty!

Had some south coast dives, bad vis but tonnes of mullet yesterday, took home two. Much better vis today but less fish, stuck with it until I finally got another mullet. Fishcakes for tea tonight and fish curry tomorrow I think.

All's good.

I've seen a few small Bass but nothing worth taking.

Very murky south coast dive yesterday, saw no fish but got the crap scared out of me by a seal in 0.5m vis.

Then found a young dead dolphin :( Poor thing. Took some shots for the stranding people.

Got some funny looks coming out of the sea with a dolphin and a spear gun so made sure I explained it all to the tourists lol

That's really unfortunate that you found that on your dive but I guess mother nature was doing her thing, hoping to get in today on the south coast. I can imagine you were subject to some pretty severe scrutiny until an explanation was given!
Thanks for sharing

lol yeah Somebody reign Gaz in eh!

I've just gone on a spending spree. Got the beuchat Guardian float and a new 7mm Elios mtm ordered. bit worried a 7mm might be overkill but at least Ill be sorted for winter diving. Actually bit worried the float might be overkill but it looks good for longer dives.

I'm thinking of ordering a new 7mm Elios mtm for the express purpose of wearing all year round - I find that I get cold in my 5mm, even at the height of summer, when I've been in the water for several hours.

Have you ordered that from Dave T (or have you taken a course in Italian, and ordered it direct from Elios yourself)?

.

Ahh the joys of 7mm suits, I had one a good few seasons back (it has since moved on to pastures new) purely for winter diving for scallops..
Honestly it didn't make enough of a difference to me, perhaps a bad suit but seemed to be the wind on the surface and before/after that was the killer. The extra weight and reduced flexibility (of my suit at least) has stopped me going back to one.. that said I certainly considered it at christmas on my first dive for a looooong time, or perhaps I was just not hardened enough! For now i have just started using an under vest thing and that really did make a difference. Hopefully the 7mm suit works out better for you than me!

Well my 5mm is nearing the end of it's life, I actually wanted a 6mm but Elios offered me a range of options and the 7mm package fitted what I wanted better.

I did Order through Dave but he refunded my money and said hes not selling stuff at the moment. So I went direct to Elios and its been easy as pie. All via email and all in pretty good English :)

I've got an Omer 7mm, which keeps me warm enough, but is a bit 'stiff' (as well as requiring a lot of weight), and an Elios 5mm yamamoto, which is very subtle, but doesn't really keep me warm enough (especially after 6 hours in the water); so I figured a 7mm Elios yamamoto should keep me warm enough, and be flexible enough, for most of my spearing, and should use a bit less weight in the bargain.

I wear the Elios vest all year round - I'm a bit of a wuss.

I've got the guardian float and love it. Might be a little over kill but it holds absolutely everything I will need especially when I know I will be out all day. Lunch, clothes, mobile phone, water.....the whole sha-bang!

Its also comforting to know that I have a big visible and very buoyant SMB while out too.

Nice long south coast dive, poor vis but nice and calm. Not much out in the water at all but took a nice Flattie home for my dinner so all wasn't lost!

3 dives o the south coast this weekend, all with shocking vis, loads of kelp bloom in the water. Today , zero vis :( Got out and walked back it was so bad.

I got in on Thursday morning on the south coast just up from the Roseland. Vis was awful, couldn't see the end of my spear most of the time. I should have got straight out but pushed out along the coast line hoping it would clear but no joy.

As for fish? Who knows. Could have been loads around for all I know, but didn't see any.

Hope things clear up soon.

Got in again on Sunday.

Vis was better at around 4-5 meters, but hardly a fish to be seen.

Still good to get in the water for a decent swim.
