Less wind today but not the sun we were promised - still the next few days seem to be getting better with very little wind but .... now we have fog forecast LOL

So tomorrow evening we have suggested an early bird meet in the Rockmount front bar at 7pm for drink & a chat & hopefully watch the sun go down...
The bar overlooks the west coast, in fact it sits 20' from the beach!
There is a good (& very popular) fish n chip shop right by the Rockmount & the bar itself serves good pub grub.
Sitting on the sea wall eating fish n chips is not a bad pastime & is properly what me & Sarah will be doing around 6.15pm

Mike due to the unpredictable sea conditions & wind direction I would of far rather left the venues until the last opertuanty but if under pressure then they will be the same as last year ... L'Eree, knife & Bulwer avenu.

Mart, FYI I tried the Knife a few weeks ago and saw nothing! There appeared to be hardly any weed beds in the middle this year. Don't know if anyone else has had more luck though ... :hmm looking forward to catching up with everyone Friday night:):friday

Col, one problem with over 20 spear fishermen is finding areas big enough to accommodate that sort of number, at least using the knife as a launch base offers a varied & extensive ground.
I would of liked to use the Richmond end of Vazon but it is so difficult to make decisions without knowing what the wind will be doing on the day!

Colin, we have dived it a fair bit this week, very fishy now. But it can change soo quickly! Especially with 20 spearos fishing it lol :)

As we are meeting in the evening, anyone up for a lunchtime dive? High tide...

Dragged myself out the water at 22:00 last night. Steady cruise along the rocks and back over the sand. Mullety as usual and quite a gathering of spiders but left them all alone as was just looking around.

Vis a little stirred up but still great. Still a suprising amount of ambient light under water at 22:00 despite being dark at surface.

Afternoon dive me thinks. :hmm

Does anyone need any last minute dive gear from Apnea shop in Jersey?

If u sort it with the shop asap, and one of us will collect it (latest Thursday) and bring it over Friday.

B4 u ask---sadly, we are not on commission!

cheers mike

Hey, is this offer still on? Just found out my order from scubastore hasn't even been processed yet (despite them confirming that delivery would be today!).

It's all hotting up (quite literally as it's got silly hot today!) ready for the first early birds to meet up for the first social tomorrow night (thursday) at The Rockmount.

We've then got the second social on Friday night at La Piette Hotel (St Peter Port) where everyone will officially get to know each other over a few drinks and a meal. You'll receive your goodie bags then and sign the rules and entry forms for the Specimen Hunt if you are joining in with that.

We'll announce the official dive sites for the weekend on Friday night as the weather forecast is variable as to wind direction at the moment and we want to have the best sites to dive for you over the weekend. I know a number of you want to not fall foul of the rules about not diving the official sites 48 hours prior to the competition however as we are not announcing them till Friday night we will not be enforcing that rule.

Saturday day kicks off the Specimen Hunt with venues announced Friday night. The rules for the competition are attached to this post in PDF format.

Saturday night we have the Herm BBQ for those attending - this amazing night continues the social activities and DB is sponsoring the food and ferry costs for this night. People get back around 22:30 and if last year is anything to go by there will be a few who want to head into St Peter Port for a few closing drinks!

Sunday everyone is back in the water for the 2nd day of the specimen hunt followed by the prize giving and closing party over at Foxfish's. DB and Foxfish are sponsoring the food for that evening.

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone (we're at around 40 people attending) to the DB UK member meet building upon the great bunch who came last year (check out the group photo) and everyone enjoying the social events and the friendly specimen hunt. The emphasis is on people having lots of fun and meeting each other - in that manner we do have an overall prize for the competition but also a number fun prizes for people competing of all levels and abilities.

I'd like to thank the sponsors for their generous prizes.

One thing I ask is that everyone wear their event T-Shirt (you'll get one as part of your goodie bag) for the socials where possible as it helps build a great social spirit amongst the group.

I look forward to seeing you in the next few days!

Those big Mullet tempted me eventually today Jonny and 2 are in the freezer.
I lost you both quite soon after we got in - octopus is still out there so I'm sure there will be a pile of Bass on their way in :)
