Would love to come along for the curry, but my social calender is full until after Christmas :)

PS> Merry Christmas everyone and maybe a Chrstmas Eve dive?

All,

I am looking at getting wet on sunday, has anyone been in recently? - Are there still fish about!?

Cheers

Tunny you’ve got more chance of shooting a fish and getting wet if you just stand outside in the rain, and what with the wind that’s forecast you’ll get just as cold, and at least you’ll be close to home for when you get changed afterwards.

Ah well I'll be safe in the harbour and I am dying to get in again I'll only be thinking I wonder if there is any fish still about if I don't give it a bash!

Seeing as the air temp is rising for the weekend it will probably be my last chance until the Xmas hols.....

Wish me luck!

Cheers

Just back a few shells, vis very milky and couldn't see the end of my gun at 6m. But great to be back out.... Any luck Ryan?

Been talking to local fishermen recently (usually after I've just got out of the water with a surfboard under my arm) and they are telling me that there are still fish around at the moment.

They are still pulling nice(ish) bass out of some of the beaches around Plymouth, and last night a guy told me that he is still taking bass from the beaches of Bournemouth, and also took quite a few nice dover sole (amongst other things) off Hengitsbury Head - so there's still something left in this season (just need to get your hands on a set of x-ray specs, because the viz remains appalling!)

Pencil me in for curry and x-mas eve dive - no promises that I can make either yet, but I'm showing interest.

Hi John,

Not going until Sunday hopefully the harbour will at least have some vis even with these strong winds... :head

Gaz - Good to hear the fish are still around!

Just wondering has anyone here dived Hengistbury head? I have been looking at it for some time but I am after some advice as to safest times against what tide due to the strong tides around the head.

Cheers

Stick 'em in the FOM John - you never know!!! Well done for getting in and good luck on sunday Tunny.

Podge - I'm always up for a curry, just depends on the date... Hope you're not working too hard.

Christmas eve dive goes without saying!!!! it's tradition now, need the scallops for Christmas meal starter!!! What time?

i used to fish hengisbury head several years ago with paul... several reefs which run towards the head, normally big shoals of mullet, loads of wrasse and the odd bass...watch out for boat traffic thou, as its a through route to christchurch harbour..also fishermen right on the head itself (this is about the only place where the tide runs hard)

Thanks for the advice KK luckily I love Mullet so I will definitely be giving it a go in the spring.

Thanks Adam,

Well went in the harbour an hour after high tide, it was a little choppy though and I managed to stay in for 2 hours!

Water is down to 10 degrees and the vis was a milky 1-2m a bit better further out but not fishable due to the lack of fish - think they have headed off for warmer water.

Managed a dozen scallops and a dozen clams. Better than being empty handed! - Going to be cooking the scallops HFW style with the butternut squash and crispy streaky bacon tonight for a starter. The taste buds are tingling already!

Well thats the last dive of the season for me, already looking forward to March next year after a good second year learning our glorious sport/hobby.

Cheers

Thanks Jonny,

Yeah I will be doing some pool work as I do enjoy swimming anyway.

I know its off subject but - Does or has anyone used an expand a lung to train with?

If so what are your opinions of using them as a training aid?

Cheers

I've had a look at it a couple of times but the viz has never been in it (one of the usual problems of Hengitsbury).

I would like to re-iterate what kkdavids has said though, and then multiply it tenfold: it gets VERY boat busy through there!

Well chaps as the weather has been just a bit S**T over the last 4 or so weekends I reckon we need something to focus the mind, body and soul, so how about a pre Christmas curry sometime over the next couple of weeks.
A Saturday night if poss?(with maybe a night dive before??)

I'm up for a dive and meal. Just need to tie up the date with time off work.

Looks like the weather might be clearing a bit this weekend (though don't quote me on that!)
