Need help. Building a gun.

Thanks guys. By warm materials do you mean heating the wood and glue? I dont have that much tools so I was thinking of using a hairdryer to warm the wood pretty good lol, and no idea how to warm the epoxy mix

Just the wood!
The epoxy mixture hardens faster if heated...

Ok good. Thanks build will start to shape up soon.

With epoxy resin how much pressure should I apply on the wood? Just firm enough for the wood to be closed together or really tight? Id think firm would be enough right?

And would 3 days of drying be enough in around 20 degree celcius room?

Just firm enough for the wood to be close together.

The drying time is stated on the product. It's normally hours and not days...

Yeah I was going to give it a few days just to be safe. Its medium drying epoxy resin.

I think ill be naming the gun 'foxwan' or 'Jegfish' for all the help you both are giving me.

I appreciate it

LOL... yes the glue should set rock hard in 24 hours.
I know this is a bit premature but have you though about the final finishing coat?
I ask because you might have to order certain products.

No I havent thought about the final coat tbh. Would a layer or 2 of the epoxy resin be any decent to protect the wood? I was thinking of using the epoxy and then giving it a light rub with 2000 water sandpaper or something alike. Im certain going to give a light coat of the epoxy inside the trigger mech pocket

Good luck then LOL!!
One of life's challenges is get a good epoxy finish ... I gave up trying to use a glue as a top coat many years ago.
I now use either, a two pack polyurethane varnish or a two pack epoxy varnish.
Polyurethane two pack is expensive but you do get a very tough shiny finish ... here is one built recently ...

Lol ok then. I wont use the glue.

Ill look into the poly varnish. Any link I can order online?

Ok ill try finding locally first, but wont be easy.

I glued the 3 strips of wood together of the handle. Ill be checking it tonight and hopefully the thing stuck really good.

I also forgot to say how incredibly beautiful that gun is foxfish, incredible craftsmanship mate. I could only dream of getting my gun to look as beautiful as that.

Thanks mate, I used about 5 coats of poly, then cut it back with T cut polishing compound & a final coat of wax.

The handle stock seems to be glued really well, warming the wood was a great idea. Thanks!

Body stock isnt glued yet, still need to form the handle first as itll be the hardest thing for me to carve out (ergonomic).

Shaping the wood is always my favourite bit of a build, get some very course sand paper like 40 grit & make up some pieces of wood to stick the paper too. You can use dowel or 2x1 with rounded edges, I use super glue to fix the paper in place & get shaping.

Yeah I cant wait until I form the handle shap myself, without any machinery. If it comes out good it'll be something to be proud about, as it's literally the first time working with wood. Tomorrow cant come any faster

Handle in progress. Only using carving tools so it is taking quite a long time but should be ready by tomorrow.
This pic isnt the full progress I made today but will upload some more pics tomorrow.
