It should be about £5 pounds, but if someone is happy to come over my house we can share the expenses car park/petrol and avoid a boring lonely long drive I leave in bournemouth moordown area if someone interested is free to send me a PM. Cheers.

Club dive tonight was probably the worse dive of the season for me so far: very poor viz, strong tides and ground swell rolling in, all made for a not particularly jolly outing.

Had one mullet in my sights, briefly, and that was it!

A surfboard would have been a more appropriate thing to take in the water.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the tips on Spearfishing yesterday eve and sorry I missed that beer in the end!

All I saw last night was a lot of weed, but it was good to get in the water and realise what I need to sort out before I go next time!

I'll definitely be joining you guys again and will stick a post up when I'm going out in the Bournemouth/Poole area as I'm keen to get out more and actually get a fish on the bbq! Let me know if anyone wants to go out and thanks again for all the tips!

Cheers!

Jon :)

Kev,

I would do mate, but I'm planning on doing a bit of work on my own boat tomorrow, so probably won't be in the water.

Went out for a night dive with Paul Smith tonight, in the local area. Half way through Tony Iannu turned up with someone else, so it was nice to see them.

I went home with a 4 1/4lb bass, yet to see if Tony or his mate had anything as they were still in the water when we left.

Oh yeah, I got a hare on the way home too - it ran out in front of my car!

.

Gaz,

Surf and turf result.

no worries, let me know if you change your mind will hopefully be getting in around 10ish for high tide at 11.

Here is my number 07841 878 334 just incase:)

Hi Kev too tired or I would join you.
I been yesterday for a night dive with Kobus we headed Swanage parked the car change and when we saw the brown color of the water we where put off.So I remember about Paul and Gaz where nearby and I tried to call them both no answer so it was a good sign they are into the water. I just drove with the wetsuit on and when we arrived I saw the cars parked another good sign. The water was almost cristal clear I saw the guys and I went there,I was near Gaz float and the stringer was empty but his hands busy with a very nice bass good. Just the time for this enjoyable wiew and I snapped my Omer Ice (again) I wasnt surprised at all and I didnt give a s....! Was a night dive and in a shallow water so I dont need it so I dived for three hours without.I saw Paul and he sad shhhhh! Gaz got a bass so I didnt want disturb that beautiful moment and left to go around. With one fin I felt like a disable but did my dive. Got 2 beautiful lobbys and 2 big spiders,Kobus a fairly size bass about 2-3 lb. We saw a shoal of small bass and they swam with us for about 10-15 minutes we where hoping to see mum and dad bass but they didnt show up. I coudnt get out of the hole a huge lobster with only one claw haa on the way back I also had a scallop. We had a beautiful dive and how funny on the way back almost a budger. I'm looking forward for the next night dive. :friday

Hey guys

Just wondering if you do anything in particular to be able to hold your breath longer or any relaxation tricks to be able to go a bit deeper. I used to be able to hold my breath on land for about 5 minutes when I was v fit, but a different ball game at sea when I had problems equalizing....
Not as fit as I once was, but would be very interested in any tips you guys have...
Thanks!!!!!! :)

Thanks for the offer Kev, but I've only just got out of bed. Was up quite late last night dealing with that hare - well, the aftermath of dealing with that hare anyway.

I started in the kitchen but had to move the operation to the bath tub after a very short space of time: I've never seen so much blood and guts in such a small animal - it was almost enough to turn me vegetarian on the spot!

Anyway, the back half was in pretty good nick so, like you say, surf and turf for me.

Maybe hook-up another time for that dive :)

Jon,

I'm no freediver mate, but from what I've learned relaxation is an important factor.

Move around on the surface in a quiet, relaxed manner (if you are swimming hard, you are already going to reduce your dive time). Whilst breathing up for your dive, clear your mind and relax both your body and soul completely, (sounds a bit cheesy, but it's the best way I can think of to describe it). Perform a nice relaxed duck dive, and drift down to the bottom with as little effort as possible. Land softly on the bottom and relax further, feeling at one with your environment. Continue to remain completely relaxed, to the point of almost being zoned-out. When it feels like the right time, return smoothly and gently to the surface, again completely relaxed, with a peaceful mind. When on the surface, remain completely chilled-out and breath gently. Don't dive again too soon, but leave enough time to recovery fully before your next decent, remaining completely peaceful the whole time.

My bottom times increase over the course of a dive, so that I am able to stay down longer after a couple of hours, compared to relatively short times when I first get in.

If you've got things playing on your mind (dangers, kit niggles, cold, concern about bottom times, boats etc) it will raise your anxiety levels and reduce your dive times. There are different levels of natural ability, but if you can learn to relax and 'zone-out' it definitely helps

I'm not sure that comparing your dry breath hold times with your actual bottom times is much help. I can hold my breath for over 3 minutes laying on my couch, but don't often stay on the bottom, in more than 5 meters of water, for much longer than a minute (I'm not a 'natural'!).

If you've got the time and patience, there are 'breath hold tables' on this site that you can use to practice. And there are also plenty of threads and posts by genuine experts on this site too, that you should look at for well-informed advice (as opposed to my scant knowledge) - just do a search.

One thing I will say: it's amazing how much your bottom time suddenly extends itself when a nice fish turns up in front of you!
