Hi Guys,

Apologies for not meeting up with many of you yet. I'm hoping to get out next week as I'm off work.

I have a nagging question that I hope you can help me with (It may sound daft so please bear with me)

Do you generally set up at your car and walk to the sea or like me, carry your gear down. I'm not overly comfortable leaving my dry gear on the beach whilst I'm in the water, but nor do I particulary want a long walk in a wetsuit (what do you walk in?). Also, I'm not sure what to do with car keys etc.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Phil

PS Does anyone else pack a fishing rod in the car just in cae the vis is pants?

Normally get the gear on & take the walk.

Re the key, I have a little key safe with a pin padlock that I attach to the chassis of the car. Some people will take their keys with them on their float/dive board I can't do that yet as all I have is a plastic torpedo float, but I will buy a dive board with pockets & then take with me.

Hi,
I'm new here (at this treat) but I've met some of you in person.
Yesterday I got nice, 74cm fish. Vis was about 8 -10m but it was looooong finning to the site - 1 mile one way. And finnig back to the beach you have always to fin against current.
Puzzle: does anyone know where the image was taken?

Hi Paul,

Have you got a better pic of the fish - maybe on the beach - that would help with the puzzle:)

I doubt it would be Kimmeridge (Kim being a voluntary no-take zone, and all that).

Tonino, I gave one - one mile finning and current on way back. And the building stays at the entrance to the path to the beach. And it is in Dorset. Gaz is right and in Kimmeridge you wouldn't find vis 8-10m these days.

I have found that Paul Smith knows the Dorset coast beter then rest of you! He gave the right answer (sent to mew by e-mail) - it's old, good Old Harry. But now there is not a lot fish left. When the temperature of the water dropped down to17 degrees the fish is gone! That one bas I got after 6 hours of finning! And I saw only several small (30 - 40cm) bas while two weeks early I usually met hundreds of them! Good news is that there appeared good sized Pollocks - about 2-3 pounders. And BIG Wrasse and Grey Mullets.

Hi Paul, you are full of energy my friend I dont think I ever ever done one mile finning to go and back specially with the current against me,well done for the fish and the efforts :friday. I know that Paul Smith knows a lots of thinks and as we use to say that he is an "Old Fox" :)

Scott,

I Recommend these mini boards mate:

Imersion - Inflatable mini board - OThree Shop

It's the same as the one that Paul M has in his photo. You can't ride on top of them, as you can with a dive hunter, but they are a nice handy size, quite visible (being bright yellow, as opposed to the dull red of the Omer Atol board) and, more importantly, I can comfortably carry everything I need on it: 3 guns, torch, reef shoes, drink and lobster net with room left over for one or two of the following: GPS/mobile phone/small VHF/waterproof case for keys, etc.

They seem to be quite difficult to get hold of at the moment, but O Three have just had a delivery so I've bought myself another 2 for future seasons (so that's three I've got now - I like them that much!). If you want one I'd move quickly before they sell out again.

The only drawback is that the internal inflatable skin seem to self destruct after a season of heavy use (little splits start to appear: I've got five or six patches on my original at the moment, so will probably be filling it with expanding foam soon!). But then I'm in the water all the time, so you'd probably get a good couple of seasons out of it with less frequent use.

I've got a dive hunter too, but I much prefer this mini-board.

Personal preference. It's up to you.

Gaz.
