Nordic Deep

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Benny, Fattah might have an excuse (living in Canada), but for you with so cheap flights between London and Gothenburg....

Yeah I know... but permission from the wife can be tricky! If all our holidays revolve around me freediving then one day I will come home and the locks will be changed and (if i'm lucky) a suitcase on the doorstep...

Does no-one else have this problem???

But this year was always going to be tricky because I am flying to Australia tonight and it's hard to swing 2 holidays in such a short space. Hopefully next year if i'm still in Europe I will make it a priority. And besides, it may be the last time I get to use my 5mm Elios.

Cheerio,
Ben

ps as for the growth debate... everything must grow, just reminisce about the good old days and try to make the new times a similar as you can.

i had a face to face or rather face to jelly encounter with a lion's mane here in vancouver back in july. i was approx 80cm diameter bell and lurking at about 5m deep in approx 10m of water.

it happened about a month ago approx 400m off jericho beach, when the visibility was about 40cm max due to blooms and silt. i saw it as i ran into it. luckily i think much of the longer tentacles had been damaged in the wave action in the shallow water, so i wasn't stung too bad.

two days later i got a nasty sting on the back of my calf in the same location but this time i never saw the jelly/ninja that got me (vis was still 20cm).

not fun at all. i had jellys on the brain for a couple weeks after that and they loomed large, lurking just behind the shadows of each dive.

here is a video i found on youtube of a lion's mane
YouTube - Lion's Mane jellyfish found at Langley Marina 8/11/07

cheers,
sean
vancouver, canada

ps. sorry for the thread hijack - nordic deep sounds amazing, congratulations on another successful competition.

Yeah, they are there in numbers when the vis is worst. its not so bad here now, think the worst has past.

Cebaztian,

apologies for the hijack (was kinda relevant tho).
Have you thought of holding the competition when the water is colder? good vis and less jellies could make for a better event.

If you get the spectator situation in good order then It could be a future holiday for Me.

This looks SOOOOO familiar :crutch

I always have this problem. My girl is fortunately also a freediver (spoon fed by me) but much much much less fanatic then myself (she only does the looking for fishes stuff, do not even try to bring up static or dynamic etc), so it is always a balancing act to find the right holliday destination with a well balanced freediving / non freediving program. If i mess this up :martial :martial :martial :crutch

Yep, at times it felt as if we even had a little Nordic Deep kindergarten there. Several athletes helped out as baby sitters, even me... can you believe it?

I hope little Lucas is doing fine and this will not be a traumatic memory messing up his later life...

After a quick look at the result lists it acurred to me that actually it was pay back time for the Germans.

First and third place for the men went to Berlin, Germany!!!

So you scandinavians are very welcome to come to Berlin and win our competitions but be sure we will return the visit and take it back in the depth...

See you next year in Lysekil...

Berlin City rules...

HAha Martin! LOL!

Yes It is great to have my German friends down there, but I'm not so sure of 'Berlin City Rules' ;) LOL

Anyway I liked the family feeling and the diverse attendance of spouwses and children!

Well Ben and Glenn I did not have that problem, since she shares the same passion for freediving. :) Though one is lucky to find someone sharing or truely having the patience for one's passion. You know it's not just a hobby for many of us. It's a need, a therapy that honours our individuality and keeps our heads cool in a confusing time of uncertainty.

Thank you Sebastian and your team for everything!

Love peace and water!

Kars

Oh btw folks has anyone some nice ND2007 pictures I can use for my report on my site?

Thanks!

Nordic Deep 2008

I know you all have been eagerly waiting for this years calculations of NORDIC DEEP POINTS.

A system based on all aidaresults from 2007 that weighs the disciplines against each other, so that specialists in different disciplines can compete against each other:

Nordic Deep alternative point system

CWT - 1 point per meter
CNF - 1.3 points per meter
FIM - 1 points per meter
STA - 0.18 points per second
DYN - 0.45 points per meter
DNF - 0.55 points per meter

You might also have an interest in checking how the averages has changed since last year.

This years competition starts 16 august, contains some 12 competitions of wghich 8 are aidaranked.

New this year is that we very likely might have a huge wavebreaking plattform (A drunk guy got his arm twisted during vacation in Brasil and made a promise to deliver this).

Freediving competition - Nordic deep

Thats it , its over.

Some 50 freedivers has now started their journey home.
Over 250 performances in Aida and non Aida competitions.

Lines, boats, lists, neopren, led, lanyards, focus, breathing, carbondioxic emissions, even some bare asses.

I have tried to upload an xls file. Didnt work.

But I can say this that after the last heats in the finals we saw the following winners:

OVERALL
Jesper
Hanli

Team sta won by the danes

Magic 3 won by Steinar

Head to head won by Johan D (after Ulf got DQSP).

Thank you Sebastian for another great Nordic Deep!

I just returned home at 06:00 in the morning, after long busride from Sweden to the Netherlands.
With all the pleaseant seeking caracters in one spot sharing so many good experiences it's indeed the Warmest cold water competition.

Do you also have the challenging 'Guess your Depth' competion results?

I'm looking forward to people posting here their Favourite Nordic Deep 2008 photo's!

Thank you Sebastian for allowing us the oppertunity to have these rich, important, sometimes life changeing experiences in the wonderfull settings of the Swedish deep waters going from the clear green surface to the warm embrace of the deep.

Love, Courage and Water,

Kars

The last years resultlist 'designe' seems to be more user friendly for me, with exact meters, minutes and date's. However, congrats to those who participated on the comp, and for the organizers. It would be great to be there next time!:)

Balázs

The comp was just great, 10 +! Very warm atmosphere and happy faces after succesfull dives! It was so nice to get new freediving friends, I really felt that we all were like one freediving family! Thank you Sebastian, Hanli, Christian, Doc and everyone, who made this event possible. Certainly I will be back there next year and I'll bring some more Finns swimming with and without fins with me too ;) You'll get pictures too, as soon as I have time to arrenge them.

See you all next year!!!

Thanks for the kind words, Matti! It was great to meet you as well and share the friendly atmosphere with every diver on the boats and at Lysestrand.

I hope the hat fits - I love wearing mine every day.

Take care!
Christian

I'm proud of it, I'm so happy about it, I love it! Though I'm not wearing mine every day, I want to save it for very special moments in freediving, like Nordic Deep next year :)

Keep on training Christian, next year I'll try to catch up you and Anders on CNF :D
